Biden talks about being a transitional figure then runs again.
Biden runs again despite what must be obvious even to him he doesn’t have the stamina to actually campaign.
Biden talks about the importance of small d democracy then is mum while the Dem establishment ensures there is no meaningful primary and even the primary schedule itself is manipulated to ensure Biden has the appearance of momentum.
He makes a big show of not meddling in the investigations and prosecution of Hunter. Promises he won’t pardon Hunter. Does it anyway.
This is the Biden legacy. Performative objectivity. Respectability theater.
Don’t get me wrong, my prison reform instincts are not reactionary. Just because the elite infuriates me doesn’t make me think anything Hunter has done warrants hard time. The failson deserves a lot of consequences. A lot of restorative justice, whatever befits being a serial liar and whatever else he’s provably done rather than the fever dreams of the right. But just because the Trumps are worse doesn’t make this right.
I voted blue for harm reduction, I know that staying home or voting red out of some naive idea about punishing the Democrats is functionally a statement that I am willing to take a chance on the GOP achieving its maximalist goals: concentration camps for undocumented immigrants and political prisoners, denaturalization, the official end of any public health or education, the end of any trans rights and major rollbacks of gay rights etc.
But boy, when it becomes clearer and clearer that Biden and co. wasn’t taking Project 2025 or Trump’s social media rants as seriously as I was, I understand the anger of the Obama to Trump voters. Acting on their rage at the never ending hypocrisy of the Dems is juvenile, but they sure seem to be enjoying it.
I wish I had some conscionable political outlet for this anger. (I’m a red state public employee, most of the usual suggestions about local involvement would be unwise. They absolutely do retaliatory firings here but they do it smart, in ways that are difficult to challenge.)

Mark my words, the expulsion of representatives for poor decorum in a system that ranks last on democratic norms will likely provoke copycats and escalation. I don’t condone like behavior from blue states but I’d be genuinely surprised if it doesn’t happen.
These words will be in my grandchildren's history books

It’s really something to feel disheartened by your fellow Americans after this election and then getting the double whammy that is cheering on gun violence and death as some moral imperative for change. Like it really is time for the sane people to retreat into the woods I feel.
#Americans really don’t think outside of American norms that are in this day and age largely peaceful stable and democratic#like seriously go to the Philippines or Mexico or Burma and then talk about how this country needs violence to effect change#it’s such privileged take to have because only people who haven’t had to flee political violence make them#do you want to go back to an era where violence was more commonplace#I sure as hell don’t

Wdym Flavio called himself a democratic dictator, and said that he's pulling all the strings behind the scenes(x)
#idk how to describe it but. a lot of the tps now act pretty ruthless#but theres just something sooooo palpably different hearing an old school f1 guy talk#it feels like they're on a whole other level. at least to me !#that interview is so fascinating though#how he sees his role#as this kind of underboss#he doesnt want to be tp bcs thats too much. but he still wants to make all the decisions#i guess to me it often felt like most tps had an iron grip on what their teams did#but is he just outside of the formal structure? or is this the norm for all teams#since he said tp and td are to implement what he wants. not make decisions#democratic dictator.....#i guess i shouldn't be too surprised his role in the team is way bigger than the title makes it seem#i mean 'executive advisor to the ceo' gives off advisory not dictorial#though frankly its better for the image of the team for him to be behind the curtain and not representing them out front#considering um. everything.#flavio briatore#f1

Post the transphobia post
"I won’t do those jokes anymore. Which is fine, because the reason I didn’t do the joke on the special is because I came to an understanding that other people came to much sooner than I did. Which is what? Which is that a lot of people are idiots. You don’t want to have a joke be misunderstood and then someone goes and beats up a trans person."
Norm Macdonald on jokes referencing transphobia
Surely this is the quote you were referring to, right? You didn't see a screenshot of a joke Norm made on SNL in-character in 1993 being circulated in a popular tumblr post and go on to assume he was a transphobic piece of shit without making even a token effort to follow up on it, right?
Right?
#tbf there IS a discussion to be had about norm's politics and his comedy and how they were and were not reflective of one another#given that he was known in his personal life to be a highly educated liberal democrat with a passion for literature and philosophy#but performed his standup in-character and showed no such inclinations#though I'd still say his comedy could trend towards political and social issues in certain instances#and of course a lot of it was DEEPLY offensive and took things too far#often as a way of exposing the logical fallacies and hypocrisy of a bigoted mindset#though of course that doesn't mean you can't still be offended by it or think it was insensitive#anyways it's all a moot point because later on norm decided to remove all references to transphobia from his act#in a way I think softening his humor made it less incisive and prevented him from highlighting bigotry#but also protected people from those who would take it at face value and feel emboldened by it#ask#anon#norm macdonald

I'm just saying if we fired like a good 30% of the dnc and banned them from management positions for 4 years maybe we could have an electoral cycle that doesn't suck tremendously.
#how the Fuck does Washington run on snack drawers and soft norms and the suggestion of party lines#when it's all something you can just ignore when it's convenient to fuck over as many people as possible#also i guarantee the moderate Democrat is so much easier to bully into voting for transgenders are people and so on#then us bleeding heart leftists are too convince to vote for genocide Joe#anyway I'm not tagging this with anything because I'm pure stupid grumbling here

do you seriously think they wouldn’t go though
It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.
Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.
#republicans won’t want to alienate the fanclub and democrats have a strong track record of Norm-upholding#even in the face of blatant ignoring said norms and traditions of respect from the other side

No because holy fuck, I haven’t even gone past what it says in this post and just…
DO NOT FUCKING LET DESANTIS MAKE ANY HEADWAY. THAT FUCK WILL TAKE THIS SHIT AND RUN AND THE SUPREME COURT IS JUST AS FUCKED SO THEY WON’T STOP HIM.
This thread is incredibly important to read.
It is also extremely difficult to read. I don't know if I need to point this out, but the document itself is obviously full of bigotry so please take care of yourself if you choose to read it. Antisemitic phrases like "cultural marxism" and "global elites" appear before the document even really gets rolling, and are mixed in with transphobia, racism, and more.
If you want a taste of how this document starts in the first main section about "The Family", here is a taste:
"This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (“SOGI”), diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists."
It is all bad. ALL of this document is bad, and dangerous, and threatens the lives and the safety of everyone living in this country.

Oh, so she's a high road coward just like every other fucking Democrat, got it.
I'm tired of this shit.
We've "appealed to decorum" our way into full blown fascism and this just proves they're going to stay on that path.
Why is it Republicans can constantly break the rules and get away with it while Democrats just do fuck all because of norms that were made up by them in the first fucking place!

More Meddle in the Middle
An insightful reflection on the relationship between democracy, human rights, and power dynamics. My new essay critically examines Helen Fein’s ‘More Murder in the Middle’ and explores the role of external meddling in democratization.
I recently read Helen Fein’s research paper, titled “More Murder in the Middle: Life-Integrity Violations and Democracy in the World, 1987,” published in 1995, and I thought I should take some time to reflect on it. This paper appears to have sparked a debate about the effect of democracy and democratization on respect for human rights, particularly physical integrity rights. Continue reading…

Quote
The reason for Biden not to do this was to allow his son to remain collateral damage of the GOP war against his presidency and to leave him in the hands of the Trump DOJ for at least the next four years all to make a point of principle about being better, different, more righteous, more norm-honoring than Donald Trump. Truly. No one gives a fuck. If anything, that logic I just laid out sounds like one of those fastidious, hyper-process-oriented and baroque bits of reasoning that have of late left Democrats mesmerized while the real world is passing them by.
The Pardon
I fully support this pardon, and I encourage President Biden to go to TOWN on using his SCOTUS-approved unchecked powers of the presidency to pardon and protect and Trump-proof everyone and every institution he can before the fascists take over.
Do more, Joe. Really push the limits, because norms and traditions haven’t meant anything to anyone who isn’t an elected Democrat since 2016, and they will cease to exist in a little over a month.
